From inland's vineyards, to the outfall of Isonzo river into the sea

This easy route runs through the lands of Aquileia to Grado, passes among inland's vineyards and along channels and drained plains, and finally goes to the sea.

The first stay is Strassoldo, a small well-preserved mediaeval village, from where we will visit Palmanova, a sixteenth-century city with a particular form: a nine-points star. It has been celebrated for more than two centuries as the best fortress-city in Europe. We will then head to Aquileia, a roman city which still has a beautiful archeological area and a spectacular basilica with early-Christian mosaics and a great bell-tower; and finally to Grado, the golden island with Venetian features, which a maze of islets embellishes. There we will discover the early-Christian cathedral and the ancient baptistery with octagonal base, two architectural jewels.

The route is surrounded by a flat landscape with cultivated fields and vineyards, or a thick net of channels. We will bike along small streams till the natural park of the out fall of Isonzo River. From there we will follow a beautiful and long bike path along the seashore till the natural reserve of Cavanata Valley, which was used a long time ago as fishing lake and now is a paradise for bird watching: a lot of aquatic species of birds nest close to the small beaches.

Crossing Primero channel, we will continue on the bike path and from Grado Pineta along the seashore till theold city center of Grado, later to Aquileia and Strassoldo.

Among the doc vineyards wecannot miss a visit and a wine tasting in a typical cellar. The mediaeval village Clauiano deserves a stop at the Foffani cellar: in its unique atmosphere we will taste the awarded Sauvignon and Merlot Bianco wine closed to its flowered garden and the old barn. There the Missoni table cloths have wine colors and a piano stay at the disposal of the guests for entertainment.

This trip has already been tested and can be adapted to small or bigger groups. We propose guided tours leaded by our guides who speak english, german, french, spanish and portuguese. We can provide this trip also without leaders as long as the group can follow the tracks using a gps since itineraries develop on broads that are not always easy to find.

On demand we can also provide other services as, for instance, a bus following the group or electric bikes and much more. Big groups are kindly invited to book in advance.
