8-Day Cycling Tour Itinerary Across Veneto: From the Dolomites to Venice

From the mountain peaks of the Alps to historic towns, artistic treasures, and magnificent Palladian villas, this unforgettable cycling tour crosses the Veneto region from north to south. Beginning in the spectacular Dolomites and ending in the magical city of Venice, the journey follows the Piave River, Brenta River, and Sile River through a wide variety of landscapes, vineyards, villas, and cultural landmarks.

Day 1: Belluno to Cortina d'Ampezzo and Pieve di Cadore

A bus transfer takes us from Belluno to Cortina d'Ampezzo, famously known as the "Pearl of the Dolomites." Surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Cadore Alps, this elegant mountain town offers one of the most breathtaking panoramas in Italy.

From Cortina, we begin cycling along the Long Dolomites Trail, a beautiful bike path built on a former railway line. After a scenic ride through alpine landscapes, we arrive in Pieve di Cadore, the birthplace of Titian, one of the greatest Venetian painters of the 16th century.

Day 2: Pieve di Cadore to Belluno

Today, we continue along the historic Strada Statale 51 di Alemagna, once a major trade route connecting Italy with countries beyond the Alps. Since a newer highway has taken over most traffic, this old road is now a peaceful and fascinating cycling route.

We descend through a narrow and dramatic valley, following the Piave River toward Termine di Cadore. From there, a short bus transfer allows us to avoid a busy stretch of road before arriving back in Belluno.

Day 3: Belluno to Feltre

We cycle through the widening Piave Valley as the mountains gradually give way to rolling countryside. Passing through the small village of Meg, we reach Feltre, one of the northernmost towns of the former Republic of Venice.

Feltre is a charming medieval town with Renaissance architecture, ancient walls, and panoramic views over the surrounding hills.

Day 4: Feltre to Bassano del Grappa and Castelfranco Veneto

Leaving Feltre, we enter the Valsugana and follow the Brenta River toward Bassano del Grappa.

Along the way, we stop at Villa Angarano, where we enjoy a wine tasting featuring some of the region's finest local wines.

In Bassano del Grappa, we cross the town's iconic wooden bridge, the Ponte degli Alpini.

After a short stop in Asolo, one of Italy's most picturesque hill towns, we continue to Castelfranco Veneto, birthplace of the Renaissance painter Giorgione.

Day 5: Castelfranco Veneto to Treviso

Today is dedicated to the architectural masterpieces of Andrea Palladio.

We visit Villa Emo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and take a quick look at Villa Corner della Regina.

Our destination is Treviso, a beautiful walled city known for its elegant canals, medieval streets, and refined atmosphere.

Day 6: Treviso to Cavallino

Following the tranquil flow of the Sile River, we cycle toward the Venetian Lagoon.

We ride along the lagoon's edge to Cavallino, where we spend the night in a traditional locanda.

This peaceful setting is characterized by fishing boats, salt marshes known as barene, and abundant birdlife, creating a magical and serene atmosphere.

Day 7: Cavallino to Venice

On the final day, we leave our bicycles behind and board a boat to Venice.

Approaching the city by water offers an unforgettable first view of St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace.

Venice is unlike any other city in the world. With more than 400 bridges and countless narrow streets, it is best explored on foot. Wander through its hidden alleys, admire its historic architecture, and experience the timeless charm of this extraordinary destination.

For those who wish, it is possible to extend the stay and enjoy additional time discovering the wonders of Venice.
