Syracuse was the most important city of Magna Grecia and it still house interesting monuments of that age.
If you visit sicily, Siracusa is a not to be missed destination! We offer a one day tour but it deserves rather more time.
Programme of activities
9am Pick up at your hotel in Siracusa
3 hour walking tour of the archeological area, including the greek theatre, built in the 5th century BC and the "Ear of Dyonisos" , an artificial cave in a funnel shape like an ear. It is carved in limestone and its unique. The cave is exceptional with its acoustic properties, the sounds are amplified up to 16 times.
12,30 ready to go to the island of Ortigia, to have lunch at a typical restaurant
In the afternoon visit of Ortigia, the island next to Siracusa full of amazing buildings and beautiful views. Architectural styles vary widely, encompassing Greek and Roman remains, Mediaeval Norman buildings and a great deal of (relatively) understated Baroque. Restaurants, trattorias and bars abound and it is especially nice to sit out on the western side in the late afternoon, warmed by the sun and with a view over the lagoon.
In summer you will have the opportunity to taste a true sicilian granita, at the end of the walking tour.
